FAMILIES BELONG TOGETHER
Prayer Vigil

On Thursday evening, June 28, the Dominican Sisters of Houston and Dominican Family participated in an interfaith prayer service at the site of a proposed child detention center at 419 Emancipation in Houston. Representatives of the Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, and Christian faith traditions and other persons of faith came together and prayed for children and parents separated at the border to be swiftly reunited and for the end to family detention. Those present prayed for our nation to treat immigrants with human dignity and to see them as our brothers and sisters. Faith representative spoke of God’s call for compassion and mercy towards the stranger in need.

Speakers included Laura Henderson and Deacon Leonard Lockett; Rabbi Josh Fixler, Congregation Emanu El Houston; Amina Ishaq, Maryam Islamic Center; Daniel Strain, Executive Director of the Spiritual Naturalist Society; Rev. Jonathan Page, First Congregational Church, and David Leslie, Executive Director of Rothko Chapel.
