On Sunday, August 5, 2018,
Sister Donna Pollard welcomed the family, friends and community members of
Sisters Julie Marie Greig, Mary Magdalen Hanel and Carletta LaCour to join in
the celebration of the 60th Jubilee. Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza
presided and the Eucharistic Liturgy and reminded us that 60 years ago, three
young women entered the Dominican Sisters of Houston and dedicated their lives
to the service of God and the Church. Though
they began their ministries as teachers over the years they have engaged in various
ministries from hospital chaplaincy, to teaching Tai Chi Cha, to serving on
Boards of Directors. All three have served on the St. Catherine Montessori
Board. Sr. Julie served on the
leadership team as Councilor from 2010-2016.
Today she volunteers her services at St. Pius X High School. Sr. Carletta is active in community ministry along
with continuing to offer Tai Chi Cha lessons.
Sr. Mary Magdalen is the community archivist and uses her artistic
talents in caring for the flower gardens that greet visitors to the Dominican
Center for Spirituality meeting room as well enhancing the environment for our
community meetings. Attendees were invited to continue the celebration at a reception
following the liturgy.
