On Friday, October 20, twelve Dominican Sisters of Houston and members of the Dominican Family traveled to Dallas to participate in “Celebration of 800yrs of Preaching, Living Our Legacy.” They were joined by Dominican friars, sisters and laity from across the United States. Inspired by the lives of St. Martin de Porres and St. Rose of Lima, the Keynote speakers and the workshop presenters focused on living out the “preferential option for the poor.” The Dominican pillars of prayer, study, community and preaching were evident throughout the weekend. We gathered for Evening and Morning Prayer; workshops focused our study of Sts Martin and Rose. Community spirit was alive as we visited with one another and renewed acquaintances. Preaching, not only at prayer or from the pulpit, the keynote speakers, reminded us of our legacy that as members of the Order of Preachers, we preach daily with our lives.
