Earlier this fall, Father Bruno Cadoré, OP, Master of the Dominican Order, set aside the month of December as the Dominican Month for Peace, a time of prayer, preaching, and action to promote global Dominican solidarity for peace in a world torn apart by many forms of violence and war. Each year the focus for the Month of Peace will be determined with input from Dominicans globally.
The focus of solidarity this year is Colombia. One of the two revolutionary groups at war with the government declared a cease fire just two days before the papal visit in September of this year. This cease-fire, ending 50 years of fighting, is believed to have happened in honor of Pope Francis’ visit.
The Month for Peace will strengthen the Colombian Dominican family efforts in supporting the implementation of the Peace Accord and add our voices to the call that this new and complete agreement hold. This year's campaign encourages the whole Order during the Month of Peace to support them in their efforts to forge peace and reconciliation in Colombia through prayer and preaching. Our sisters will be offering a reflection before each of our Saturday liturgies during December.
