Sr. Mary Frances (Fran) Boddeker, OP
May 20, 1929--June 16, 2018

Born in Houston, Texas,Sister Fran was one of five daughters of the late Julia deStiguer and Alden Xavier Boddeker. She is preceded in death by her sister Edme Barth and survived by her sisters Sally Ogden of Plano, Nancy Blais of Wimberly, and Betsy Boddeker of Friendswood, and by devoted nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

 Following graduation from St. Agnes Academy in Houston, Sr. Fran began college at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio where she studied for a year. She then moved back to Houston and attended the University of Houston for a semester before joining the Dominican Sisters of Houston on February 15, 1950.  She earned a B.A. from Dominican College and an M.Ed. from Our Lady of the Lake.  She continued her education at Aquinas Institute in St. Louis and by taking numerous courses offered by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.  Sr. Fran taught at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School, Assumption Catholic School, St. Christopher Catholic School, and St. Augustine Catholic School in Houston and at Sacred Heart Catholic School and O’Connell Jr. High in Galveston, Texas. Sr. Fran served as principal at St. Austin Catholic School in Austin, Texas and at St. Mary Catholic School in Taylor, Texas. 


After her ministry in education, Sr. Fran served as the administrator of Newman Hall, a residence for women students at the University of Texas in Austin and as registrar for St. Agnes Academy.  She served her community as a member of leadership for six years and later as the mission coordinator for the congregation’s school in Guatemala. Sr. Fran was devoted to the Guatemala mission school, carefully recording donations and writing a personal, hand-written note to each donor. Sr. Fran will be remembered for her quick wit, her ready smile, and her generous gift of self to community, family, and friends.


Services:  On June 19, 2018, afternoon prayer to receive her body at 4:00 p.m. and wake at 7:00 pm; Mass of Christian Burial on June 20 at 10:30 am. All services are at St. Dominic Villa on the grounds of the Motherhouse, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, 77021. Interment will follow at 1:00 pm on June 20 at Forest Park Lawndale. In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters of Houston or Guatemala Mission Fund, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77021.
