Nursing Assistant
Job Position
Position Summary: The Dominican Sisters of Houston (DSOH) seek a Nursing Assistant. DSOH is a community of Catholic women religious who are committed to remaining engaged in furthering their Dominican mission and living fully to the extent of their individual abilities and in relationship with each other. The primary responsibility of the position is to provide a safe environment for the sisters.
Description: Provides basic patient care and medication assistance under the direction of healthcare coordinator (Registered Nurse).
Experience: Strong commitment to establishing warm and supportive relationships with residents and staff as well as focusing on daily care of sisters. Prior experience in geriatric care preferred.
Duties/Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Healthcare Coordinator:
- Adheres to standards of nursing care, safety, and policies/procedures of the Dominican Sisters of Houston.
- Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care
- Administers medications per physician’s orders and properly documents
- Answers patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems.
- Provides physical support to assist patients to perform daily living activities, including turning and repositioning bedridden patients.
- Checks vital signs and weight; performs blood sugar checks, specimen collection, and post-mortem care and reporting changes to nurse.
- Gathers information about patient condition and treatment plan
- Maintains a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.
- Observes, documents and reports observations of patient behavior, complaints, or physical symptoms to nurse.
- Feeds patients or assists patients to eat or drink.
- Dresses and bathes patients who are unable to do so for themselves.
- Changes bed linens or makes beds.
- With specialized training and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to the needs at that time.

Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers; transports patients and equipment as appropriate.
- Ability to walk, bend, kneel, reach and exert 50 to 80 pounds of pressure
Position Hours and Salary
- Full time position
- Evening/weekend shifts
- Gross annual salary commensurate with education, background, and experience
