Rembold, Mary Laura, O.P.

10/27/1942 - 05/25/2022

Sr. Mary Laura Rembold, O.P. (Mary Teresa) entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Sr. Mary Laura was born in Evansville, IN, October 27, 1942, to the late Roy and Louise Malone Rembold. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Tony Rembold and Jimmy Rembold. She is survived by her brother, Joe Rembold, her two sisters, Anne Rembold and Kate Richardson, her brother-in-law, George Richardson, and numerous other extended family members.

Following graduation from St. Francis De Sales High School in Riverside, CA, in 1960, Sr. Mary Laura entered the Dominican Sisters of Houston. She earned a B.A. in English at Dominican College, Houston; an M.P.S.A. in Private School Administration from the University of San Francisco, CA; and Certification in Ministry from Mt. St. Mary College, Los Angeles, CA.

Sr. Mary Laura served in education ministry at Assumption School, Houston; Queen of Peace School, Houston; Little Flower School, Port Arthur, TX; Holy Rosary School, San Bernardino, CA; and St. Francis De Sales School, Riverside, CA, where she taught for 49 years. She taught kindergarten through fourth grade and especially loved teaching reading and language arts. Sr. Mary Laura was a dedicated teacher wholly devoted to her students. She inspired generations of students at St. Francis and had the privilege of teaching the children and grandchildren of some of her former students.

Upon retirement in 2017, she returned to Houston to live with the community where she continued ministering to others. Her congregational service included her ministry as receptionist at St. Dominic Villa, driving sisters to appointments, giving mission appeals in the Archdiocese, helping with donor appreciation, and attending to many other needs of the community with great care. She will be remembered for her capacity to love those around her unconditionally.

Sister’s body will be welcomed at 4:30 p.m. and the vigil service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at St. Dominic Villa Chapel, 6504 Almeda Rd.
