Sister Veronica Borski, O.P. entered eternal life on March 24, 2015. Sister was born on June 30, 1924, to the late Lonnie Fridye and Leon Borski in Richards, TX. After graduation from Anderson High School in 1941, she decided to do her part in the war effort, working at Sheffield Steel as a crane operator and later in California. The war over, she made another life-changing decision, joining the Dominican Sisters of Houston on September 28, 1945. She lived the consecrated life faithfully for 69+ years.
Sister was predeceased by her sisters Maggie Wagner and Helen Karonika and brothers Lee, Jr. and Ted. She is survived by her sisters Rosie (Wagner) Luecken, Augustine “Tina” Youngs, and Elizabeth Hudson and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Sister Veronica earned her B.A. from Dominican College, an M.Ed from Our Lady of the Lake, and her nursing degree from U.T. Health-Science Center after which she continually updated her nursing skills. Her teacher/principal ministry included schools in Houston (St. Mary, St. Augustine, Assumption, St. Thomas More, Christ the King, St. Catherine Montessori); Beaumont (St. Anthony, St. Pius X); Austin (Newman School, St. Austin, Sacred Heart); Taylor (St. Mary); Whittier, CA (St. Mary). From 1978-86 and 1990-2015 she ministered as a nurse.
Whenever help was needed, Sister Veronica was the first to volunteer. Her sense of responsibility and generous gift of self until the work was done was evident throughout her life of service.
